FLAVOUR ENHANCER E627 (SODIUM GUANYLATE)

Like the E-Code E631, E-Code E627 is a Flavour Enhancer.

E627 is a food additive that denotes the presence of a food enhancer, which can be obtained from sardines, or from baker’s yeast, or other extracts.

The information in circulation gives the impression that E627 is derived only from non-ḥalāl animal origin, which is untrue.

The products displaying E627 on the label is most certainly ḥalāl if certified by the MJC Halaal Trust (MJCHT). The misinformation, on the contrary, should be dismissed as false.

The E627 flavour enhancer, like many other food/flavour enhancers, may have side-effects for some of its consumers, and some others not, but that doesn’t mean that the E627 is not ḥalāl, especially when it is certified ḥalāl by the MJCHT.

The MJCHT has one Fundamental Principle about consuming food:

“When in doubt (uncertain) about the ḥalāl status, it’s best to abstain!”

We trust that the above-clarification of E627 encoding dispels any confusion.

Jazākumu-Allāh Khayran

Yours in the service of humanity
